Dryland Event Management are proud to announce that Glacier by Sanlam, will extend their title sponsorship of the Traverse mountain biking events through to 2026. Glacier by Sanlam, a leading investment platform in South Africa, has been a long-term partner of the Oudtshoorn-based event organisers and the title sponsors of the Glacier Storms River Traverse and Glacier Cradle Traverse races. The expanded agreement will see Glacier by Sanlam not only continue their support of the highly successful event in Tsitsikamma, but also aid in the launch of an exciting new stage race in Limpopo.

“Glacier by Sanlam has been the perfect partners for the Traverse mountain bike events,” Henco Rademeyer of Dryland Event Management praised. “Their attention to detail and desire to create a long weekend where mountain bikers and their families can spend quality time together, has helped create events with a cult following. We are excited to continue working with them to provide riders and non-riders alike life-long memories experienced at the Glacier Traverse events.”
“Their support showcases the confidence they have in the sport,” Rademeyer continued. A confidence which has led them to invest in the relocation of the Glacier Cradle Traverse event for 2024. “The new venue is 250 kilometres from Johannesburg and features some of the best trails in the country,” Rademeyer hinted. “We will be launching the race in due course, but I can confirm that it will feature the same warm hospitality and relaxed atmosphere which makes the Glacier Storms River and Glacier Cradle Traverse events so popular.”
The pillar of the companies’ relationship will remain the Glacier Storms River Traverse. The iconic stage race is entering its eleventh year in 2023. Famed for providing a great time, both on and off the bike, it is undoubtedly one of South Africa’s most popular events. Each year, accommodation in the Storms River village sells out for the race, ensuring that the event’s capacity is created by what the town can host rather than what the trails can accommodate.
“We host so many partners at Glacier Storms River Traverse – existing clients, intermediaries, potential clients, colleagues and friends – who love the outdoors as much as we do,” Khanyi Nzukuma, Glacier’s chief executive, explained. “It’s a time to connect outside of work and share a moment of wellbeing and fun in beautiful surroundings, with family.”
Due to the shorter stage distances, which the Glacier Traverse events provide, younger mountain bikers are also able to take part. For 2023 the Glacier Storms River Traverse will host a Youth Category. Typically, riders must be 18 years or older to take part in Cycle South Africa-sanctioned stage races, but riders as young as 15 are eligible to race in Tsitsikamma. The Youth Category is open to riders between the ages of 15 and 23. They can enter either in youth teams or as solo competitors and will benefit from a 25% discount on the standard entry fee.
eBikers are also welcome at the Glacier Traverse events. The shorter routes negate the need for stressful battery management; allowing electrically assisted riders to simply enjoy the routes, rather than focusing on conserving power for a long day on the trails.
