The Warrior Race, South Africa’s largest obstacle course racing series, is proud to announce that Virgin Active, has signed on as its new title sponsor for a three-year deal.

This announcement follows news that Faces Africa Events and Virgin Active have partnered on a series of South Africa’s favourite mass participation events, including Virgin Active 94.7 Ride Joburg and the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon.

“The partnership between Virgin Active and Faces – inclusive of The Warrior Race – is a perfect fit for our brand as we merge our expertise in health, wellness, and fitness with the exciting challenge that the Warrior Race brings for participants each year,” says Lyndsay Webster-Rozon, Chief Marketing Office at Virgin Active.

The obstacle series challenges South Africans with an exhilarating experience that pushes them to the limits of body and mind – the ultimate test of endurance. Virgin Active’s involvement provides access to a range of training tips, guidance, and expert-led programmes developed to focus on the all-round strength, speed and endurance that is needed to succeed.

Participants will be given access to Virgin Active’s training facilities, programmes, and change rooms in preparation for the events as they train for the Gauteng #2 event on the 1st of October 2022.

The team behind the programmes also plan to set up training courses at select Virgin Active clubs that will support Warrior Race participants as they hone their skills between events and provide newcomers to the sport with a place to practice without the pressure of racing.

“The partnership between Faces and Virgin Active is underpinned by our mutual desire to create environments in which people can maximise their physical and emotional health, forming active communities and participating in events together as they continue to live healthy, active lives,” says Clark Gardner, Group CEO of Faces Africa.

“The participants for the Warrior Race are – in most cases – avid fitness enthusiasts who spend time in the gym working on their strength, stamina and endurance which is key to competing in the race series. We’re excited for each Virgin Active Warrior Race athlete to enjoy the added benefits and expertise now afforded through this three year partnership.”

The first round of the Virgin Active Warrior Race series under the new banner will be the #2 event at Prime View Adventure & Leisure in Olifantsfontein, Midrand. It will feature Black Ops, with

12-15 kilometres of racing and 25-30 obstacles, Commando, 8-10 kilometres and 22 obstacles, as well as a Rookie, with 4-6 kilometres and 15 obstacles, grade challenges.
