The 47th Cape Town Cycle Tour, the most beautiful bike ride in the world, will be held on Sunday, 9 March 2025. Riders can choose between the 109km or 42km routes and experience the spirit of a day where bicycles rule the roads. If you can’t make it to Cape Town on race day, the Prelude Challenge offers a way to earn your official finisher status from anywhere in the world. Entries for the Cape Town Cycle Tour close on Thursday, 30 January 2025 at 9 am, so don’t miss your chance to be part of this iconic ride.

109km: The Classic Route
By bicycle is truly the best way to enjoy the sights of the Mother City. On the second Sunday each March, riders do so with the safety of fully closed roads and on-route support.
The 109km route takes cyclists through the Southern Suburbs, along the False Bay coast and past the puzzled penguins of Simon’s Town. After the Cape Point Nature Reserve, the halfway mark, they cool off in Scarborough and Misty Cliffs before getting their first sight of the world-famous Chapman’s Peak Drive. The final ascent of the day, Suikerbossie, provides one of the legendary challenges of the route, followed by the descents through Camp’s Bay and Clifton, finishing in Green Point.

42km: Half the Effort, All the Spirit
The 42km event, which was successfully launched in 2023, provided thousands of cyclists who might not have been quite ready for the full lap, the opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. Far from a mundane meander along a closed freeway, they will again enjoy the vineyards of Constantia and the cooling Newlands Forest on their return, without skipping any of the big-event organisation the 109km riders enjoy – refreshment stops, fully closed roads and superb spectator support make either option a safe, enjoyable way to spend the day on your bike.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour turns 47 this year, and there is a strong group of loyalty members who ride it year after year, enjoying the day of two-wheeled freedom in one of Africa’s busiest cities. And it’s such a beautiful ride – the sea, the mountain, the wildlife; there can’t be a prettier mass-participation ride in the world. A true celebration of cycling in a beautiful city that everyone must join.
