Cycle Lab, South Africa’s largest cycling retailer, will open a new megastore in Paarl, on 25 October 2024. The Western Cape Winelands store is located at La Concorde, in the centre of Paarl with easy access to world class road, gravel and mountain bike riding from the doorstep. Boasting a broad range of new bikes across cycling’s major disciplines, including E-Bikes and children’s bicycles, Cycle Lab Paarl also showcases the latest in cycling apparel, components, and gear – as well as featuring a work shop and a coffee shop. Conveniently, the new The Pro Shop Paarl is located upstairs too. Perhaps most importantly however, the new store is founded out of a merger with Bicycle Garage – who under the guidance of Hanco Kachelhoffer has built a formidable reputation within the Paarl cycling community.

Many bike shops stock one or possibly two brands, which limits the options available to customers. Cycle Lab was founded on the belief that riders deserve more choice and therefore proudly display bicycles from a range of brands alongside one another. The new Paarl store stocks global leading brands, including SCOTT, Orbea, Silverback, Pinarello, Liv, Merida, Cannondale, Titan and Bianchi. Budget friendly options, in store, include offerings from Marvel too. While the youngest riders are served by balance bikes and small wheel sized pedal bikes by Marvel, Silverback, Titan, SCOTT and Avalanche.

Reflecting the key growth areas within the sport, currently, the store will offer a broad range of E-Bikes. These include electric road, all-road/gravel, sport and mountain bikes. By empowering riders to cycle further, faster, and to climb more readily E-Bikes provide the enjoyment of cycling to more individuals, or keep people in the sport for longer. They are also, simply, undeniably fun and through the store’s expert sales staff would-be buyers can be assured that they will be guided in their purchase of the most suitable E- or Analogue-Bike for their personal needs.

Cycle Lab Paarl will also stock apparel from brands like Ciovita, Wattz, Santini, Assos and First Ascent alongside helmets from MET, SCOTT, Leatt, Giro and Oakley. In fact, road, mountain, and gravel riders can kit themselves from shoes to eyewear in store. Then browse the shop’s range of component upgrade options, including handlebars from PRO and saddles from Fizik or Sella Italia. Completing one’s bike set-up is made easy with accessories from tool storage tubes and on-the-bike bags, a wide range of mini-tools, CO2 regulators and canisters, tubeless puncture repair tools, and bike lights.

“We are excited to welcome the cycling community of Paarl and the greater Winelands to our new store,” Cycling Marketing Manager for the MoreCorp Group, Taryn Henstock said. “The Western Cape has some incredible trails, as we all know, and many of them are easily accessible from Paarl. But there is also fantastic road riding in the area, with Franschhoek and Bainskloof Passes being standout highlights. Gravel is great around the town too, with almost endless roads stretching into the Swartland towards Riebeek-Kasteel and beyond. Being able to serve a community with such diverse riding options on their doorsteps will play to Cycle Lab’s strengths of offering a broad selection of brands and bikes across all riding disciplines.”

“Kachelhoffer and his team are already trusted members of the local cycling community and we know that their contacts and good reputations will help make the Cycle Lab Paarl store a great success,” Henstock confirmed.

Bike Workshop

“A significant part of the strategy for the store is to support young riders. Schools’ cycling is growing rapidly in and around Paarl too and we look forward to enabling that growth,” Henstock continued. “We aid to do this by offering a wide range of kids’ specific bikes and by providing parents with expert advice in store. A bicycle is an amazing thing, it allows for freedom, facilitates improved fitness and creates fun. Being able to be part of a young person’s journey into cycling is immensely rewarding and we hope to get many more kids on bikes in Paarl.”

While the showroom floor showcases the latest in cycling technology the heart of any good bike store is the workshop. Cycle Lab Paarl’s experienced technicians will keep customers’ beloved bicycles running smoothly, helping them chase down personal bests on climbs, results in races, or just fun out on the roads and trails. The in-store coffee shop provides a great meeting point for rides, as well as an excuse to pop in, grab a brew, and browse through the bikes and gear on display.
