The 29th edition of the Ride Johannesburg cycle race, South Africa’s premier mass participation cycling event, will take place on Sunday, 22 November 2026. For the first time in the event’s history, riders will cross the finish line on a world-class motorsport circuit. Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit’s legendary status brings a new level of prestige to Ride Joburg, offering participants the rare opportunity to complete their race on one of the most recognised racing venues in the country.
The final stretch of the 97-kilometre event will unfold inside the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, where riders will take on a lap before the finish, delivering a powerful and memorable end to the day. For many, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, riding the same tarmac that has hosted international motorsport icons. The event team is currently finalising details around shorter distance offerings, which will be announced closer to the event date.

A Spectator Experience That Changes Everything
The move to Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit is set to transform Ride Joburg into a far more immersive, spectator-friendly event.
Grandstand seating provides uninterrupted views of the finish, while the circuit layout allows supporters to follow the action for nearly two kilometres as riders surge toward the line. The contained venue creates a safe, vibrant race village atmosphere where families, friends, and fans can experience the energy of race day up close.
Centrally located, Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit also improves accessibility for supporters from across Johannesburg, making it easier than ever to be part of the event.

A New Race Dynamic
While the broader route remains familiar, the shift in venue fundamentally changes how the race will be experienced, elevating both the rider and spectator experience while introducing a fresh racing dynamic on the streets of Johannesburg
Where riders previously faced a demanding second half, the 2026 route flips that script. The toughest climbing now comes early, reshaping the race into a more aggressive and tactical contest from the outset. Riders who can position well and manage the early effort will be rewarded with a faster, flowing run toward the finish.
The closing stages favour speed and racing instinct, with long, fast sections leading into the circuit and setting up an exciting final push. Instead of a grind to the line, riders can look forward to racing home.
This evolution adds a new strategic layer for elite competitors while remaining accessible and rewarding for the broader field.

Seamless Race Week Experience
Ride Joburg will continue its successful partnership with Specialized stores across Johannesburg for number collection. Riders can collect from selected stores during race week, or at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on the Saturday, where the Ride Joburg Partners Expo will once again take place.
Following strong positive feedback in 2025, this decentralised approach remains in place to improve convenience and reduce congestion.
